For the first time since that epic season of 1998/99, Joe Royle, Paul Dickov, Nicky
Weaver and the rest of the team were re-united at a spectacular dinner to celebrate
the wonderful achievements that secured promotion from the old 2nd Division to the
1st Division the following year.
The evening consisted of a three-course meal and the opportunity to purchase unique
memorabilia at an action-packed evening re-living this exciting and vital period
in Manchester Cityʼs history.
Special VIP guests including Mark Halsey (the referee) and Brian Horton (Ex MCFC
Manager/Sky TV pundit) to name but a few. The players re-lived their stories of
that famous day with life-long blues, comedian Eddie Large and TV presenter John
Stapleton adding to the occassion.
Ian Cheeseman of BBC Radio Manchester and a lifelong Manchester City supporter was
the compere and auctioneer on the night. ‘That Goal’ prints signed by all the players
fetched a staggering £600 for the Variety Club Children’s Charity which helps disabled
and disadvantaged children throughout the UK.
