THE ARTIST

Ron Kirwin is a Manchester born artist and lives and works in the region. He studied at Newcastle-upon-Tyne Faculty of Art & Design where he graduated with a BA(Hons) in Graphic Design & Illustration. A City Season Ticket holder, Ron has been following the Blues for over 40 years through thick & thin and was introduced to the home of football back in the 67/68 season by his Dad & Uncle where he subsequently thought every season was going to be ladened with trophies!
'That Goal'In 2009 I came up with the idea of producing something to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the Play Off Finals in 1999. I decided to try and create a watercolour painting capturing Paul Dickov's Goal, scouting far and wide to find reference shots, grabbing screen shots off the dvd of the game and mixing them with other bits to create a unique view of the goal that you won’t find anywhere else. Once I had the reference the painstaking work began to paint the scene complete with Wembley Crowd and scoreboard.
'And Then it was Five'The response was great and it wasn't long before I thought about what other famous City goals to create. Kinky's goal against Southampton came to mind ... “one of the few times I've seen a stadium empty at half time as everyone went to see the goal again on TV”! But in the end I plumped for Andy Hinchcliffe's goal against the Reds back in 1989 which also coincided nicely with the 20th anniversary!!
‘93:20’Every City fan’s greatest moment in football! It was a pleasure painting this one and to meet Sergio himself in May 2017 and chat about his goal through my painting was a moment I will never forget! The feedback I get from City fans who now own this print is unbelievable!

‘Feed the Goat’
This was a special goal and says so much about being a City fan! Not only was it the last Derby game at Maine Road and ‘The Goat’ scoring his 100th goal for City that day ... but the way the goal unfolded after Gary Neville's comments prior to this game and atmosphere that day made it all the sweeter! Also, the late Marc Vivien Foe’s contribution to this game should never be forgotten.
Coming up ...
My website wouldn’t be complete without one of the greatest goals ever scored by a City player ... ‘GIO’ will hopefully be in production later this year.
Also ... it’s the 50 anniversary of us winning the First Division Football League back in 1967/68. That was a wonderful season with the likes of our old hero’s Bell, Lee & Summerbee playing at the top of their game! It was my first full season as a lad so it just has to be illustrated! Keep your eyes open for this one ... ‘CITY TILL I DIE’.
